Porto Kayio is the fifth release of Greek jazz guitarist Takis Barberis. His journeys into eclectic worlds continues not only on his trademark melodic and rhythmic level, but as Takis experiments with beat samples and vocal loops he enters a brave new dimension which entirely suits his style and becomes a natural companion to his compositions. Barberis doesn't fall into the trap of using (and abusing) familiar samples, but instead records them with virtuosos like the bhattacharya brothers, then lays the down again in line with already complex yet intriguing structures, the samples themselves becoming an additional instrument. Replay Poly P. and notice new layers under the catching beat, re-discover the meandering Oia by listening to it in alternative environments. This is a release which easily plays on an international level, and quite possibly the break has now come for Takis to play his world to the big scene.
